Free Text Messages Proposal was Rejected

Smart and Globe, two big telecommunication company in the Philippines rejects the proposal of free text messages in the country.

Legal counsel of Smart Communications said that imposing a free short messages service (SMS) would cause severe congestion in their network. And will affect their more than a billion incoming and outgoing text messages sent in the Philippines in a day.

Also according to them SMS charges in the Philippines were already one of the lowest compared to compared to P1.60 per SMS in Singapore; P2.70 in Thailand; P10.50 in Australia; P6.62 in Canada; P1.16 in Middle East; and P2.59 in the United Kingdom.
